Episode 21: Gene Therapy
This week’s episode Lebaron and David discuss Gene Therapy. We begin the conversation by giving a brief overview of what gene therapy is and how it works. The discussion then turns to how the gene therapy is delivered to the target cells by means of viral vectors. We give the pro’s and con’s of each type of viral vectors: AAV, Adenovirus, and Lentivirus. This leads us to discuss the current clinical trials going on right now across the globe. In particular, we discuss the Sickle Cell Disease and SCID-X gene therapies. We finish up by discussing the potential ethical dilemmas of gene therapies. Comment below and let us know what you think!
